    Chicago "Black Sox" pitcher Ed Cicotte, a Detroit native, was the only player to be paid for throwing the 1919 World Series. He used those proceeds to buy a plot of farmland, in what was then well outside the Detroit metropolitan area, at what is now the southwest corner of Seven Mile and Merriman Road in Livonia.
